Background Replacement

We shot some interviews in front of some translucent blinds. The client has decided (after having approved the shot on-set, of course, and not being able to offer up an alternative location) that they don't want to see the blind pattern and some of the visible background movement.

Is it possible to use SliceX (or some other tool) to cut out the foreground subject and place them over a solid colour (white) background? There is hand movement where the arms and hands move outward from the body and then back in towards the body. It's a large amount of content (~1 hour) so anything that requires significant tweaking may not be appropriate.

I've tried a static draw mask with a gradated semitransparent overlay, but the variety of the background tones makes it impossible to make the mask invisible. I've tried blowing out the BG using the Color Board and a colour mask (combined with a gaussian blur with a colour mask), but the background shares too much tonality with parts of the skintones and/or clothing, so that didn't work without blowing out parts of the subject to an unacceptable level.

Thanks for any input or advice (and any tutorials that might be applicable) Not looking for advice on how to correct on-set in the future - as mentioned, this was the best option available at the time and client had approved the shot on-set.

Here is a link to a sample frame, with the levels adjusted to get a clear view of the background patterns.

Have you tried just using the Keyer and a garbage matte? Worked just fine for me. I had to do three sample (two top right, one bottom left) to set the keyed to the proper color.

The shirt gets picked up by the Keyer, so a duplicate copy on top of it (Opt-drag) with a Draw Mask covering the white sleeves and shirt fixes that.

SliceX may be able to make shape masks that track the sleeves while he moves his arms.
