Any thoughts as to which is the best free plug in on the market.
I tried to download one that was on the FCP X Free site, but it said I had to download something else first and then it would be sent to Motion. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to find it following the download. So I'm looking for an alternative. I need one that I can add information/text to, etc.
Thanks

I'm stil a lil' confused, what you mean by 'best'?
Only 'Contdown Clocks' I'm aware of, are those built-in in color-bars/tech headers, which have to fullfill specfic standards.... and those are not 'clocks', but TC displays....
The ones from the celluloid days are just 'eyecandy', and you find hundreds avail on the web.... and those are no plugin, just a piece of movie, a clip...
What do you need it for? (maybe I'm just lost in translation) ..............

Occasionally I need to add a countdown clock at the beginning of an item being sent to a news broadcaster via FTP or a Sat Truck. Would need to add text to identify what the item is, etc.

my broadcast days are decades ago, but btmk, those are highly standarized elements, where when what element has to appear, beep, flash or whatever....
So, ask your clients what they demand... answers will differ, from station to station, country to country...
many board members here are broadcast professionals.... US actually asleep ... give'em a few hours

As Karsten says, different broadcasters have there own delivery requirements, especially these multi-format days, so worth checking..
But as you're in the UK this might be the sort of thing you’re looking for. It’s a 25 fps 30-sec countdown we made a while ago but still use. It has space to the right to add whatever info text you need.
It’s based on a starting timecode 09:59:30:00 with first frame of picture at 10:00:00:00. The clock cuts to black 50 frames before picture start at 09:59:58:00 with a -20 db audio pop.
Feel free to use it if you like.
