Set exact pixel dimensions for cropping?

Set exact pixel dimensions for cropping? was created by emericks
I'm using Final Cut to zoom in on a segment of film. Its a video of a choir concert, and I want to begin with a shot of the entire choir, zoom in on a soloist, and stay on that image for a while. Right now, I have the full choir image cropped the way I want, and the soloist image cropped the way I want, and I have the segment that I would like to be Ken Burns-ed cut and ready to be zoomed.
Is there a way to set the cropping dimensions to be exactly the dimensions on the video segments on either side of the Ken Burns-ed clip? To clarify:
Full image cropped = Top: 104px, Bottom: 48px, L: 218px, R: 53 px
Small image cropped = Top: 483px, Bottom: 75px, L: 266 px, R. 727 px
I want Ken Burns to zoom from the first crop dimensions to the second crop dimension, that match the clips on either side. When I try to do this by clicking and dragging the crop box, it jumps between groups of pixels, so I can never land exactly on the dimensions I want.
Any thoughts out there?

I think you've over-complicated the effect you are trying to achieve.
As you've realized the Ken Burns Effect in FCPX does not have any inspector controls to adjust to the precise dimensions you are looking for - just the selectable Start and End bounding boxes. But you don't need to use the Ken Burns Effect at all - at least the automatic effect.
Just select your clip - you have already have set the "Full Image" crop dimensions you want - then set a keyframe for each of the Top, Bottom, Left, Right settings. Then move to the frame that you want to have your "Small Image" dimensions and set keyframes for those settings.
EDIT: Actually forgot to mention that FCPX automatically adds the ending keyframes when you set the second set of your "Small Image" dimensions in the inspector.
Anyway, FCPX will handle the interpolation from the beginning and ending keyframes automatically. This way you are creating a manual Ken Burns effect from one continuous clip - no cutting required.
If you are not familiar with setting key frames you could look here for more info: help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.2/#/verb8e5db98

Hi Emericks
Welcome to the forums.
Check out these two tutorials by Steve Martin on using the Ken Burns effect. Both clips show how to achieve what you want but each takes a slightly different approach and has a couple of extra tips.

In the first clip Steve talks about why he prefers using KB over keyframes. IMHO it is nice having both KB and being able to use the Transform with keyframes for different reasons while editing.
Happy Editing!
Hope this helps, Greg
