Synergy Mouse not moving skimmer

FCPX 10.2; Macbook Pro 13" early 2015; El Capitan; Synergy server on Windows 8.1

Synergy (mouse & keyboard) works perfectly in every respect with all software I use except for one oddity and I wonder if anybody can suggest why.
The mouse does everything except that the skimmer appears as the mouse enters the Timeline but does not follow the mouse. If I waste a valuable USB 3 port for the same wireless mouse it works perfectly as does the touch panel (which is too sensitive to the initial touch for delicate work).
I appreciate that I could buy a Bluetooth Mouse to save the USB 3 socket. I also assume that plugging in the mouse will slow the USB 3 system anyway.
Any comments please?

Have you tried Apple's own Magic Mouse, or better yet, the Magic Trackpad? I've been using the Magic Trackpad for couple years now and would never use anything else. I can get surgical, just like with a mouse, just zoom in enough. And use it on the Mac you're working on directly.

Shared device options like the Synergy never really give great results. I've tried several options, and have over the years hated every one I've tried.

What is the purpose? A mouse and keyboard are not an outrageous expense. Do you have a specific situation in which you have to use Synergy?

Thank you for your response BenB.
I have not tried your suggestions... cost.
As for the need for Synergy, it is due to already using a USB 3 powered hub and not enough sockets also the fact that I believe (maybe wrongly) that adding a USB 2 mouse will slow other items on the hub to the USB 2 speed... difficult to check.
I accept what you say but the rest of the mouse options work exceedingly well and one is also able to copy/paste between Mac/PC as an added bonus. Super bonus means that with a second (larger) screen I can close the laptop lid and use the PC keyboard for the Mac and it works perfectly through Synergy. It is only the skimmer that does not move and I am baffled (not knowing what drives the skimmer) as to why.

I've used wireless mice and trackpads for so long, I forget there are such things as wired mice now. Yes, plugging a USB 2 device would slow the whole hub down. Not acceptable. Seems some compatibly issues here. Have you contacted Synergy about this?

Actually BenB it is a wireless mouse but the receiver still has to be plugged in to a port. Bluetooth is the answer of course, which uses no ports but costs money. I thought I had the perfect answer in Synergy, which I have used for a long time, until the skimmer issue, which I didn't notice at first because I used the play-head; until I watched a tutorial showing the skimmer on the Timeline.

I should add that the skimmer does work with Synergy on Clips in the Library!
My original question was triggered by thinking there was a setting I have missed for the Timeline only.

The coordinates are being sent because the mouse pointer moves, the red line of the skimmer appears where the mouse is on entering the Timeline area, it just doesn't follow the mouse. Every other action works.
As far as I know a mouse simply sends coordinates and button clicks so I don't see how it can be incompatible. I have tried two mice also.

As for Synergy, I doubt that they have all software with which to check this out. As I say it is the only software, and I have a lot, that fails on one peculiar aspect only.
I think there is more to this than meets the eye.
[Edit] Both Skimming and Clip Skimming are turned selected in View Menu. I also notice that turning off 'Skimming' stops Library skimming of Clips and that turning off Clip Skimming seems to do nothing.
If I leave then return to the Timeline then the skim position moves so quickly leaving/returning gives the impression that the skimmer is working in every other respect.
