... and request for help when working with text.
So first the note:
As part of my jobs I often work with non roman text, with my subtitling tools these days even more (sometimes on a daily base).
Was "Kind of note when working with text ..."
User Benno Heidkamp tries to help on integration for children from the Middle East with his publishing company.
Working on this he stumbled across XTI and we worked out a start of a workflow.
The most problematic currently language group is Arabic with the right-to-left reading, followed by Hebrew and more simple problems with non-right-to-left reading Russian (Cyrillic).
Some of the problems are simply caused by the chosen font.
For Arabic you should use "Baghdad" which at least works around the trouble with brackets and ligatures - not the pain with decimal numbers.
For Hebrew there are no problems when using "Arial Hebrew"
Russian problems are mostly solved using "Helvetica CY" and adding a space before the title text. (Unfortunately other "Russian problems" can't be solved that way.)
All this text should be copy/pasted from a .rtf document.
Now the help request.
Hopefully there are some users here who are dealing with non-roman text and could share their experience here.
Andreas
