File Management - .fcpbundle WAY too big was created by imageBlogger
Hello Forum
Relatively new to fcpX but have developed a few editing skills quite quickly.
When I embarked on this adventure I bought two new external drives. Each 1TB, one for backup - thinking this capacity would do me for a while.
LOL
After one 7min video project, with 100 3MB slides and 3 brief movie clips my .fcpbundle is now >780GB.
I've looked inside (although this is really being pedantic) and all three movies from which I cut my very small clips have copied into the bundle, even though I have only kept the three clips in the project. I deleted the unwanted parts of the three videos.
Why is this?
On the star icon representing the project folder there is yellow triangular warning sign.
I have a feeling I have setup my ONLY ONE project wrongly.
Please help me if you can.
My understanding of events opposed to projects may be lacking.
Incidentally, I'm using external storage and rendering is slow. Am I better served to use my MacHD and use an external for backup.
A few questions, I hope you folk can help.
Hugs, Mal

Exactly how did you delete the unwanted parts of your videos?
The yellow triangle means that there is media that FCPX expects to be there but isn't, probably because you removed it. Your video files were likely transcoded to the codec of the goda, ProRes 422. If you look in the Bible under Jobs chapter 26 verse 3 you'll see "And thus the files were transcoded into ProRes 422. And they shalt take up much space. But thine editing will thus be more responsive."
If you want to save space, highlight the library in FCPX, go to FILE > DELETE GENERATED FILES... This will rid you of the transcoded media but the originals will stay there. This will shrink your Libray (.fcpxbundle) by quite a bit.

Loved your biblical quote Redifer. It made me laugh.
Thank you for your help. I deleted the unwanted video by selecting it and hitting delete. Is there a better way?
It shouldn't be necessary for fcpX to store the unwanted footage should it.
The orange triangle. I had deleted a former bit of messing around before I began this, really the first project. That must be the reason. Can it be rectified to remove the warning icon?
Finally Redifer, is it to be expected that the .fpcbundle file is mega huge?
and, (well I guess, not finally) is it recommended to work from an external or your main HD?
Thanks heaps. More bible quotes please.

Redifer your advice sure was effective re: size of .fcpX package size.
From >780GB it is now 87.85GB - that's 10% of the original!
Tell me though. When I opened the file option I only checked "delete rendered files" - I did not check "optimised" or "proxy" was this correct?
There are still files within the bundle I don't think are required.
and, can you also address the qs in my last post when you get time.
I am grateful for your help.
