Hi there
It is my first time using FCP X. I started subtitling a video yesterday. It is 1h45min long.
I just realized my mac is running out of disk space!!! Is there anything I can do? I saw there are 2 FCP libraries that take up more than 115GB (the original mov file was 8.8GB)...
Thanks
David

Numbers indicate, you told FCPX to 'optimize' on import...this generates indeed colossal files ....

Delete generated project files... and work with the originals ...

This is an inexpensive, high-quality tool to rapidly delete non-essential FCPX-related data:

Hi Salas
Welcome to the forums and to FCPX world.
In addition to what Karsten said, most folks recommend placing your media files on an external drive. This overcomes the issue of small boot drives, but also can speed up the transfer of files and editing in general. If you both edit and store files on your boot (system) internal drive, you increase the internal bus bandwidth usage. By moving the media files externally, you move some of the large data transfers to another I/O bus.
Don't know what type of editing you do and how much bandwidth you need, but there are many options for external storage that should meet your needs, either USB3 or Thunderbolt. For single drives, there is really no difference between them, only when you use multiple drive RAIDs.

Here is a Larry Jordan article on "Configuring you System" that may prove useful… larryjordan.com/blog/configure-your-system/

I recently started editing on 1/2 USB3 ssd drives with UASP enabled for my projects. I move the files over while editing a project and after finish I store on hdds.
Make sure you have at least 2 back-ups of all drives.

Happy Editing :)
Hope this helps, Greg
