Good day, so as I was editing a 4k video, I added text and transition to the video. The video played fine, but when the rendering was completed I get a green screen over the section, that have the text or transition. I have 4K-read content only selected. Can someone please help me and thank you. Below is a link at the end of the video that green screen, should be a cross dissolve transition.

HI Kimal, welcome to the forums.

This looks like a graphics card issue.

Can you give us the full specs of your system?

- Computer model + year
- Amount of RAM
- What is the format of your video?

Well I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro
16gb ram
2.4 ghz Intel core i5
Intel hd graphics 3000 512mb
It plays the 4K video in fcpx, but once I put a effect (text, transition etc) over the 4K clip and it renders I get a green frame.

Thank you for the information. Looks indeed like a graphics card issue. Your graphics card only uses 512MB of on-board RAM, which is barely enough to render 4K effects and titles. You should be using this computer for HD projects, not of K, unless you don't use any 4K graphics and titles.

Try this: take some HD footage on an HD timeline and add the same titles and transition (but not in 4K). I'm pretty sure you won't get any green flashes in your exports.

I have to disagree, SLIGHTLY, Ronnie. It should not render out like that. Playback, yes, that's not going to hold up well, but rendering and export is a whole different issue and should work fine. Export is simply writing out a QT file, and inadequate GPU should only take longer to do so, not give you green screen, technically.

I've seen this before. Trying to remember what we did to fix that.

Delete all render files via the File menu for that Library. Trash prefs. See what happens.

But yeah, that GPU is going to fall apart with 2K and above resolutions.

I had this happen to an exported DVD, I just ended up restarting and everything worked fine after that.

Other people will probably know more about your issue, and be able to help you more than I can, but did you try optimizing the media? Also it might help people if you posted what camera you used.

So H.264, yeah, I'd use Proxies to edit with, on your system, for 4K. I'd also consider shooting 1080 instead.

I use a lot of 4k from the DJI Phantom 3 Pro, and I've never seen the "green screen" problem. However I use top-spec recent iMac 27s. Definitely use proxies, esp. on an older machine.

Like Ronnie, I tend to suspect a GPU limitation due to only having 512MB.

Maybe shooting 1080 would work. However I have done many tests of prior DJI 1080p content vs the 4k from the Phantom 3 Pro. The 4k looks *vastly* better -- much more so than all other 1080 vs 4k tests I have done on various cameras. I don't know why the big difference -- maybe it's outdoor detail in trees and foliage that makes the resolution difference obvious. Or maybe the prior DJI camera/codec/lens was under-performing. I have not tested 1080p vs 4k on the Phantom Pro 3, so maybe that's not as bad.

If the ultimate goal is export a 1080p project, He could try editing 4k content in a 1080p project. That will still preserve full 4k content for crop/zoom/pan but it lowers the render file size and improves performance.

But as Ben says, when the final export is done, it must eventually process some 4k content and effects, even if the export is 1080p. The green screen failure might still happen but it's worth trying.

I suggest deleting all generated library files, transcode to proxy and try that in a 4k project. Normally that's all you need for good performance. If that doesn't work use a manually-created 1080p project and the same proxy files.
