My first post. Hi people, having a lot of fun learning final cut pro. Few problems hence me joining here.
I have recorded a selection of video on my canon 70d at 1080 hd. I know there are limits in the recording time and mine is just under 30 minutes continuous recording time, which is fine. But the problem is that this gets split on the memory card into 4gig chunks, which is around 5 mins of video.
No problem with that, except when come to editing, I place each clip on the timeline and when you listen through the end of the clip to the next, you see a jump in the video and also a jump in the audio.
Is there any way that can be fixed?
I am pretty new to final cut so any help is most appreciated.
Thanks
barry

If you import clips with Final Cut's import function, it should automatically combine the files into one long clip.

Thanks for the reply. It is not combining them into one clip when I import them. However, after searching more, I found that if you select the multiple clips and then drop them together as one onto the timeline, you can a seamless run through. So that has worked for now. I suppose I could create a compound clip of the multiple files. Would that be one way to go about it?

Are you importing directly from the camera card, in a card reader? Or some different workflow?

Hi Sorry for the delay in replying. I was right into my project
I import the files off the camera into photos and then export from there.

Why go to Photos? Why not just go directly into FCPX? You're doubling the storage space required, and creating more work in organizing your video media.

And therein likely lies the problem. Photos import and export of video content is probably not frame accurate, so you end up with one or more deleted frames at the end and possibly beginning per video clip. This is the cause of the jump when placing those clips next to each other in a timeline. I'm merely guessing here, but it seems logical to me. As suggested, import directly from FCPX and that issue should disappear.
Creating history....one edit at a time !

I've imported lots of files from a 70D directly into FCPX or have saved them on an external HD and then imported. Never had the problem you're describing. I think dgwvideo may be right - Photos could be the source causing you aggravation.
