create highlights film from a full length multicam project

I shot a 3 camera 40 minute concert. I am reasonably comfortable sorting out a full length multicam but what I cannot grasp is how I make a highlights film of the concert using multicam without getting into problems. I have done multicams of an entire show before where I am just making the best edit without missing anything out but I imagined if I try and make a highlights film using multicam it might be problematic because I am not using the full duration of the footage. The client wants a five minute film from it. I don't want to have to manually make sure the cuts sync with the music. I'm probably not explaining myself very well so I apologise for that. Can I jump forward five minutes in a multicam setup to the bit I want without causing problems?

Hi Patrick, welcome to the forums.
If all your assets (video, live audio and final music mix) are anges inside the multicam clip, you can cut the multiclip on the timeline wherever you wish and the music will always be in sync with the video.

Thank you Ronny. My inexperience and a looming deadline was causing me to panic! The other problem I had was that my sound man had given me a four channel WAV of the audio and Plural Eyes kept giving me an empty channel of audio in the multicam and I didn't realise that for a while. Once I had turned that into one mono channel it was fine. It sounds ok so I guess I carry on now.
Thanks again for your response. I really appreciate it.
Best wishes. Patrick.

you got excellent advice from Ronny, so just to rephrase in my words:
the MC is first of all a clip as any other; only difference: in the project, you can switch angles while staying synch.
AND!....
you're not 'bonded' to the audio, if you like a few secs. as a cut-away, from material minutes ahead/away, for sure you can apply parts of that MC twice or several times ... or 'staple' the same MC to create split-screen - while staying synch ...
endless possibilities...

Yes you can do this. One way is add the entire performance as a MC clip to the timeline, select the camera angle you want and cut out what you don't want.
Another way is mark favorite ranges in the Event Browser while skimming the content with the Angle Viewer enabled. Then add those favorites to the timeline and pick the camera angle on each range.
A highlights reel of a musical performance is more difficult because each cut impacts audio continuity. Sometimes the clips are interspersed with transitions to interview sound bites, which can give a little more flexibility.
As Karsten mentioned, you can also use splitscreen. Here is an example of a John Lennon performance on "The Rock and Roll Circus". This gets old if it's overused, but it's a nice visual flourish which showcases the fact it was a multicam shoot.
