Multiclip Audio was created by davidwitham
I created a Multiclip with 8 channels of audio in it. I got everything balanced the way I wanted, and created a Project out of it. The audio of the Project doesn't sound the same as the Multiclip it was created from. Is that because the 8 channels of Multiclip audio are being bussed down to a stereo pair in the Project? Thanks for any insights on this.

Heya,
What do you mean it doesn't sound the same? i.e. noise/artifacts/loss in quality? Maybe you're up/downsampling and it's noticeable?
What sample rate, bit, is your original audio - and are all 8 the same spec (i.e. 44.1/16bit/stereo)?
When you ceate a FCP project are the audio settings the same in there to match?
Do you have anything applied to any level re fx?
FCP is a bit limited re audio so I tend to use my VST's within it to master stuff quickly (izotope and waves ftw). I come from an audio production BG so always thought it would be awesome to have a DAW type mixer in FCP to control each audio channel and bus/effect/in-out within a matrix vs clip by clip... at any rate I never really noticed a loss when overlapping many audio clips in FCP, should do some stress tests to see.
Maybe mix down your 8 clips in a DAW first and just import your final how you want it to sound? Less CPU reading 1 layer too.

It's not a sample rate issue, etc...I understand all that and everything is fine in regards to those issues.
What I mean is that the mix in the Project sounds smaller, it's not as open sounding as the Multiclip.
I have some mild compression applied to the tracks in the Multiclip.
I understand the limitations of FCP audio, too. It just seems strange to me that the Project created from this Multiclip sounds different.
I was trying to avoid sending this to DP, but I think that's what I'm gonna have to do. Good point about the CPU hit.

Yeah, you don't balance multiclip audio in the multiclip sync editor, you do that in your editing Project timeline. Think you jumped the gun and went about backwards. Do all multiclip audio editing in the Project timeline after you do the rough edit there.
And, just guessing here...

It kind of seems like a gain staging issue to me now that I've monkeyed around with the project audio...Anyway, I'm not approaching it backwards any more, and it sounds a lot better. Got the mix opened up the way I want it. Thanks for your insights and workflow suggestions.
May I ask you one more thing...
If I want to export some of these tracks to isotope RX5 and tweak it some more, what's the process for that? Should I reveal the clip in the Browser from the Multiclip, or the Project? Or does it matter, since they're both pointing to the same file? It seems like it would be easier in the Multi, because (in this case) it's still one contiguous file at that point, and everything downstream of the multi clip will reflect the changes made in isotope once i re Import the clip. But perhaps I'm mistaken.
Thanks in advance for any help you may have to offer.

On my reply to you, in the question about exporting to RX5 , I meant 'Reveal in _Finder_, not Browser. And after some poking around, It looks to me like I'll have to do that in the Multiclip, as in the Project it looks like I'm only able to reveal in the Browser.

That's a great tutorial you did there, Ben. Would love to see FCPX have a moveable UI screen for that which remains stationary while editing.
