Using Motion for motion control on lots of photos?

Hi all.

I am really into learning Motion now but I wanted to get some ideas from you if I could. I purchased a Larry Jordan Motion Bundle of 5 videos and they are very informative for the most part, but so far I have not found out how to handle a workflow that involves many images that I would like to add basic motion to in FCP.

So here is what I am wondering: Say I have a bunch of images in a FCP project and I want to add some basic motion. Normally I would just do this within FCP by key framing and using transform. This works fine but the one thing that Motion has that FCP X does not is an Ease in/out option.

The few tests I've done so far in Motion really look great.

So my question is what would your workflow be for this. I kind of get the actually adding of behaviors to images. I just am not sure about the basics of getting the photos I want to animate INTO the program, and then OUT of the program.

When I launch Motion, there are five options: project, effect, generator (in FCP Filter), transition, or title. Which of these options is best? And then what is the best export back to FCP X?

Do I save Motion "parameters" to re-use on other photos? I sure wish that FCP X had an ease in/out like Motion.

Thanks.

Jonathan

You're asking for the widely discussed 'roundtripping' - which isn't M5 workflow:
you can create a Project in M5, which is independent from FCPX; e.g. pre-produce the animated part of a project, export/import to FCPX...
or, you can create plug-ins, which offer 'wells' or dropzones in FCPX, to apply content.

meant as an example, my latest plug-in:
www.fcp.co/fcp-forum/generators/24980-th...ow-things-pics#73687

The animation is done in M5, the content is applied in a FCPX project.
Good thing about this plug-in concept: I can share this effect with you, even when you do not own M5!

So, your options are:
create all animations in Motion
create a 'generator/effect' with published parameters, for use in FCPX...

Hi Jonathan, Here's the simple filter for the specific function you have requested. Of course it can re-open in Motion, and add everything you need. I hope this helps Pielle
Unzip and put the folder “Pielle“ in User/ Your name/ Movies/Motion/Effects

Thanks Karsten for that info!

And Pielle thank you for that filter. I forgot about going into the animation editor for this. Maybe for what I am thinking, staying in FCP is the best thing and concentrate on actual graphical things in Motion. Lot's of stuff to learn here.

Thanks again.
