Hello All-
I need to come up with an alternate item which can take the place of a clapper. I'll be filming out of a pack and in the back country for some time.
What could take the place of a traditional clapper that I alone can use, preferably something that would fit within the palm of my hand, that I can "click, snap" to sync my reference and recorder audio tracks? Any ideas?
TIA

Hand clap is traditional.
P.S. FCP uses the audio waveform to sync clips with matching sound.

I don't know how "rough" you'll be roughing it but I've used this when shooting on my own in the field. If you have an iPhone this works pretty well -
www.movie-slate.com
- plus you can make shot notes.

Battery powered, small photography flash. That flash is only one frame in duration, and should be bright enough for all cameras to see it. Then in FCPX, make a marker on each flash frame, and sync to markers. I've actually done this on some land I have that is total woods, where sound won't travel well enough to be picked up and sync (cameras a good distance apart, plus drone), and it works really well, even during the day.

all sorts of 'clapper.apps' avail at iTS. …
What I like to recommend
Apogee Metarecorder
itunes.apple.com/us/app/apogee-metarecorder/id965930387?mt=8
(free with some ext mics, 5€)
You can not only record a clap, but make Markers while recording (just tapping) - which appear inside FCPX as markers!
So, your iOS device not only mutates to an audio field recorder, but a script-assistent too ....
Very handy, lil' known ...

I have this on my iPhone and iPad:
www.dslrtoolkit.com
It has a reasonable slate, and a bunch of other useful goodies. Obviously the slate works better on a larger iPad, rather than a small phone.
