Temporary Yellow Exclamation Point was created by steveneske
Hey guys, new to the forum so if I'm posting this in the wrong section, or it's formatted incorrectly, I apologize.
Here's my issue:
So I have a bunch of Library files that were created last year (March through October) using an older version of FCP X. I've been opening them back up recently on a current version of FCP X (version 10.2.3 at the time of this writing) to do more work on them, and certain libraries will have a little yellow exclamation point and Final Cut will hang. If I wait a few minutes, the yellow exclamation point goes away and Final Cut works normally.
However, if I switch to any other application on my Mac (say, Safari, for instance) and then come back to Final Cut, the yellow exclamation point reappears, Final Cut hangs for a few minutes, then resolves and goes away again.
The strangest thing is that it doesn't happen on every library I work on, it's inconsistent. Yesterday I was working on a file that was created May 1st, 2015 and everything was fine. Today I'm working on a file from May 23rd, 2015 and I'm encountering the issue.
I thought it might have something to do with these libraries being created using an older version of FCP X and then now opening them in the current version, but the inconsistencies proves me wrong.
I've also had the issue happen to me on two separate iMacs. I recently bought a new iMac 5K 27" (late 2015) and the issue is still happening.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

This typically indicates that you have either moved or renamed a project, clip or event thru the finder and the FCPX database can no longer identify the file. In this case, the yellow exclamation alert icon would not suddenly reappear without correcting the location or name of the file causing the issue. Another possibility that might explain the icon showing then disappearing is that you have the particular event, project or clip on a drive that is losing connection to your system, either by being turned off at various points or due to a drive or cable problem, or the drive is not ready when you start FCPX and takes a while to spin up and make the file available. In the FCPX HELP menu, select Final Cut Pro X help and choose the glossary once the document opens. Find the section on Alert Icons and you can identify the various types and likely causes. Other than relocating libraries, moving projects and events should be done only within the FCPX app to maintain consistency with the database and not thru the OSX Finder.

Welcome to the forums,
I think dgvideo has the right of it Do you have external drives connected that are spinning hdd and if so it is taking a minute or so for the drive to spin up and for FCPX to move the clip into ram.
In System Preferences > Energy Saver > uncheck the "Put Hard Drives to Sleep When Possible" This should eliminate the spin up delay.
You'll need to do this for each computer you edit on.
Hope this helps, Greg
