Hi guys! Long time FCP user but new to this forum so definitely a huge hello from me!
I'm currently having an issue which I would like some advice on (but is a problem i've noticed for a while). Whenever uploading to Youtube, I can never match the quality that is seen on my files/editing screen whilst in FCP.
Some background information. When exporting, I export using the Master Default export section. I've used a few different codecs however all seem to have the same result. I've used H.264 and also .422 HQ and the quality (even when played in 1080p) is not sharp, muddy and just does not do the footage or the film justice. I'm filming currently on a GoPro. I'm currently exporting one in MPEG-4 format instead of Quicktime hoping that may do something?
Here is a link to the video to see the quality at 1080:
Just a shame really as I'm really not wanting to share this as the quality is just not coming through.
Hoping someone could please help me on this. Would be GREATLY appreciated

The content is blocked in the USA by something called SME.
The best you can do is upload the best quality you can. But YT creates its own version of your file using its own software. You have little or no control over what happens at the YT end. And you have no control at all over how your visitors are served the file or how they view it.
There are volumes of advice for producers who are attempting to improve r manage their YT content. Most of that information is available from YT.
Usual disclaimer: Real wonks will be along shortly to correct me.

I can't watch the video because it is blocked by "SME" in my country, but a couple general things apply here,
First, give it a couple hours for youtube to completely process the video,
Second, youtube videos, and for that matter, any streaming video on the web is never going to equal the quality of a video file played from your hard drive, so some quality loss is something you'll have to accept with web distribution,
Third, Youtube appears to do a better job encoding VP9 files, so your video may look better if you watch it in the chrome web browser.
you can check out this thread for more discussion on this issue; www.fcp.co/fcp-forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-f...outube-is-killing-me
PS. other people who are faster at typing beat me to some of this.

SME = Sony Music Entertainment (Most Likely)
Did you include copyrighted music? Don't do that, you will get taken down.
Hope this helps, Greg

Thanks for everyone's replies guys!
here is the video. Removed the audio so it isn't blocked. Damn these big music corporations.
Just always wondered how some people get their videos so damn clear and crisp and mine looks like i've filmed it on a potato

Looks more like GoPro issue than YT compression?? YT bad enough, but GoPro clips need lots of loving to get good results. What settings are you using for capture and what are you doing with the media, cam to export??
GoPro just added some different settings via ProTune and "Raw" so this would be helpful.
Give all the details you can, model of GoPro, settings etc…. Knowing your workflow might suggest where to improve your final.
Hope this helps, Greg

VidGreg: Thanks for the help! The footage looks beyond perfect whilst I'm actually in FCP editing which is what baffles me. The export looks quite good also.
Just bought my GoPro two weeks ago so that definitely could be it! Ha!
Shooting settings are:
1080 SuperView
Frames p/s: 25
and ProTune is off.
