Settings / Effects / Generators Missing Since Media Moved

Settings / Effects / Generators Missing Since Media Moved was created by Bazza
My internal HD was near to capacity so I moved all of my media - videos, pictures and music to an external HD.
When I opened FCPX it was as though I had freshly installed it. All of my added content that I've bought since using FCPX has gone - the effects, generators, titles the lot.
Is there a settings or preferences file that I need to link FCPX to in order for it to reload all of my content?
Thanks for your help.

Content, like generators and such, have to stay in the Motion Templates folder, inside your Movies folder. That can't be changed. Did you move your iTunes library, also? Specifically what do you mean all your video, pictures, music? Where were they to start with?

Hi Bazza
It would be helpful if you provide as much info as you can. Like what versions of FCP, OS and how exactly did you moved your content and what were the items you moved.
This will help us help you.
Sounds like you moved some folders using the "Finder". If these are essential folders, you may need to relink. For example, iTunes Folders, Photos(iPhotos) Libraries, etc…
So being specific helps, also perhaps some Screen shots or at least the "path" of the folders you moved.
You are right that moving media data to an external may indeed increase speeds and that you should keep free space on all drives for efficiency.
Hope to help you, Greg

Thanks for your replies.
I'm using OS X Yosemitie 10.10.5 iMac 32GB 5K 27" Retina 4GHZ i7 with 4GB Radeon R9 Card
FCPX version 10.2.3
I literally copied everything on the Mac internal HD that was in the Movies, Pictures and Music folder and pasted into respective folders onto my external HD which is an 8TB WD Mybook Thunderbolt Duo.
I then deleted the folders and content on the Mac HD which freed up about 2.75TB of space.
When I opened iTunes it couldn't find my music but I have since found the library on my external HD and linked that up. Same issue with Lightroom but that is also resolved.
But with FCPX I don't know what I need to do to rectify this hence would appreciate your help.
I'm happy to put folders back onto my internal HD if this will resolve and keep the master files on the external HD as these can be massive.
Where should I start as I'm concerned with the loss of all of my added content such as generators etc?
Thanks.
PS - The Motion Template folder is now on my external HD. If I move this back to the Movies folder on the internal HD will this resolve the issue?

Bill B is right, Motion templates belong on the system drive. Returning them is essential.

Thanks everyone.
I moved the Motion Templates back to the system drive and all is working OK.
So it seems that I can keep the libraries and media such as video, audio and pictures on the external HD.
I created a test library to see where FCPX would save this and I couldn't find anywhere in preferences that gave me the option to set this but FCPX automatically put the test library in the same folder on the external HD as my other libraries.
Appreciate your help - Now I need to find a GoPro forum as I've mucked that up as well!!

Hi Bazza,
You can set where different files (Media, cache files, etc…) are stored in the Library info Pane. It should pop open when you select your Library icon in the Browser. If you change the settings, only future imports or created files will go there. You can consolidate the files if you want.
Glad you resolved your other issues.
Hope this helps, Greg

I have my iTunes and Photos library on an external drive, and they're seen by FCPX. You have to go into the Preferences for each app and solidify where your preferred Library is. In Photos, specify it to be the System Library, or whatever similar tern they use now.
Many of us use GoPros, so what's up with GoPro footage?

The GoPro issue was about it looking for my files in the original folder on my internal HD.
I moved the GoPro picture folders back to the internal HD and that resolved it. For the newer GP footage I changed the settings to store the folders on my external HD.
For the older projects it was asking me to locate the files manually. Well, a number of the projects are photo time-lapses and the folders making up those files contain hundreds of images so rather than spend hours searching for each image (it wouldn't allow bulk selection) I just reverted to the original location.
Appreciate all your help.
For those interested the 8TB external HD I am using appears to be incredibly quick judging by the uninterrupted flow when playing back video files.

Relinking media shouldn't be that much work. If you point to one image in a image sequence, it should pick the rest up automatically, if done correctly.
Or consolidate your Libraries.

I tried that thinking (hoping) it would link everything together but it didn't. When I found the file it was looking for it then asked for the next file which so happened to be in the same location as the previous files.
This went on for some time and would have been too time consuming as the project has hundreds of images.
Each time it asked for a file the search process began from the beginning EG starting from the root directory I had to point to the file location, it did not automatically open the folder I previously searched.

In the relinking window, either don't select anything, or select all (Cmd-A), then it will look for and link everything together at once. The button will change from Locate File to Locate All.
