Slowing performance and stuck skimmer in FCPX was created by dgwvideo
Hi, All...
My first post but I have been lurking for a while.
I have used FCP for over 8 years, all versions, and just had to change to FCPX because of a power mac crash. Bought a new mac pro 12 core with 48 gig ram and two 500 gig solid state Crucial M4 drives.
Just got this 3 weeks ago and installed fcpx. Completed 5 or 6 projects with no problems other than the usual.
The last 2 projects were editing some DV footage for a client when I observed a couple things:
1. The skimmer gets locked to the end of the timeline and when attempting to move it, it bounces about 1 inch to the right and keeps snapping back. The footage in the viewer shows where I click in the timeline, but the pink skimmer wont move more than an inch from the left.
This happened once after rearranging the window layout but then again after browsing the transition and title libraries, so there doesn't seem to be a common factor that I can tell.
2. Editing and just maneuvering around the various fcpx windows and clips seems to be growingly sluggish.
Does this seem to be a preference file issue that I can trash and try again? Any help is much appreciated.
OS is 10.7.2 Lion and FCPX is 10.0.2.

That sometimes happens to me, usually after I have been doing some heavy audio editing or effects. No way to fix it from my experience, other than to close FCPX and open it again....

That sounds like a fantastic setup. Kudos on keeping your G5 going this long.
I would give Apple a call about the issue. You will get transferred to the professional group and the are very helpful.

similar issue here, where the skimmer no longer lines up with the mouse arrow and (for me) keeps jumping back to the beginning. Sluggishness I suspect due to memory swapping issues with FCP X, which tries to remember everything. Restarting the software fixes it for a while. If you do get a response from Apple, do tell!

I just finished typing it, hit submit, and now I can't find it. Standby...I hope I don't have to do it all over again.
