I often use a flash to white for jump cuts, but the default Fade to Color is black. So I use the dissolve and then change the color to white. Over the course of certain edits I use this effect multiple times. How can I create a favorite effect for this? Do I need to do something in Motion to make this happen? thx

You can create a version that defaults to white using Motion, but the simplest solution may be to just copy and paste.

I copy and paste now, but I often have to open separate project to get my dip to white. Not sure why this has to be so hard. It was easy to have favorite effects in FCP7. I just created a bin with my favorite effects and had them handy for all my edits. I guess I'll try to create one in Motion and then publish it as an effect. That'll only take me the rest of the day! thx

Tried and gave up. There is only Fade In/Fade Out in Motion. If there's a way to create a Fade To Color transition in Motion, it's above my pay grade. There must be a software reason you could do these things easily in 7 but not X. Way too much time wasted on this.

There is a "Fade To Color" transition in FCPX already. Look in the Dissolves category. Place it in the Timeline, change to color to white, change the duration to 8 frames or less.

In the Lights category is a Flash transition you may like even better. Also in that category is Light Noise, that is interesting.

Yeah, I use the fade to color all the time. It defaults to black so I have to change it to white every time (or copy it from a different clip - often from a different project which isn't worth the extra time). I could use the light flash, but I really want something less dramatic (if that's the word) - ditto with light noise. I can open a copy of the light flash in Motion, but not the Fade to Color. I'm not sure what determines what is a Motion effect and what isn't. Motion has Fade In/Fade Out as a transition, but not Fade to Color. I'm sure there's a way to create a Fade to White In Motion, but I have no idea how to do that. I'll play around with it when I have the time. thx

That product is property of Alex 4D and I have nothing to do with it. But I knew it would work for you. Alex Gollner deserves all credit.

Thanks. Just wondering why this would have to be a plug-in. Would it be that hard for Apple to allow us to save our preferences - as we could in FCP7? Whatever - I got my dip to white!

I did - a while ago. In fact, it was you who suggested I do! I just searched for this topic and realized I had already been through this and generated an entire conversation. Nothing like early senility. Yikes. I'll send them feedback again and see if they remember me.
