best procedure when library/project gets wonky? was created by jak3fx
Hey all. So i have a project that is starting to get a little weird. Not sure if its the project or the library at the root, or both.
The project is pretty long. About 50 minutes. And I have about 30 snapshots of it in the library.
Just cause these things happen, I definitely have some duplicate files. And also some files that just wont link well with associated yellow triangle warnings.
Symptoms are:
-some weird jagged glitchy patterns appearing on random clips in playback
-the timeline often only is visible on left side of screen until i scroll right then it fills it in.
-sometimes connected audio clips arent visible unless i resize the viewer
-everytime the library opens in re-renders stuff that was rendered before.
So my question is, whats the best practice way to take my project, and get it into a new library or a cleaned library or whatever?
Thanks!

What Mac model/year, how much RAM, GPU, and detail your hard drive(s).
Verify all drives have at least (more is better) 15% of their total capacity left as free space.
I suspect some hardware bottleneck somewhere.

Well, that all sounds pretty good.
To start with, I'd run through basic maintenance.
- Repair all drives with Disk Utility.
- Trash all render and cache files.
- Maybe use Final Cut Library Manager to do some clean up work.
IF that doesn't help;
- Repair all directories with Disk Warrior.
- Trash FCPX pref files.
What 3rd party plugins are you using? I wonder if there's a plugin that fowling up things?

Open your FCPX preferences and turn OFF background render for starters. Then, when the library is loaded and all activity is idle ( no background tasks running such as drawing waveforms or transcoding anything) select the library and from the menu bar, choose to delete generated library files. When the dialog appears, choose to delete Render files (select UNUSED). Close the library and reopen it and see if that helps with the odd issues you are experiencing. If t doesn't, repeat the above and choose ALL render files when deleting generated library files.
Be sure to leave the system enough time to delete these files before closing the library. If you still have issues, you may have some analysis files that need to manually be removed if you have applied optical flow, stabilization, etc. to clips in any projects in the library.
Let us know how any of this goes.

ok thanks, going to try all your suggestions.
i am definitely suspicious about plugins, although the weird visual artificats on clips dont seem to be on clips with plugins activated. but i'm using a pixelfilms plugin called promessage that seems a little buggy.
