Adding Closed Captions in Compressor (SCC)

- Absence of Quality is the essence of squareness.
I have the following workflow:
a) Build Titles in FCPX.
b) Export an XML out.
c) Import the XML into X-Title Extractor application.
d) Export it as a SRT file
e) I convert the file to SCC online here:
www.3playmedia.com/services-features/fre...ns-format-converter/
f) I then try adding it to compressor as instructed here:
synchrimedia.blogspot.de/2014/07/using-c...scc-captions-to.html
I am on the latest version of Compressor & using FCPX latest version.
When I activate the CC button in Compressor I see titles formatted weirdly.
I can import the same SCC file in Vimeo and it looks fine.
I understand that the SCC file contains no formatting as such.
But do not get how Vimeo can deals with it.
And Compressor looks as if it has problems with it!?!
Am I missing some thing?
thanks in advance
Paul

To be honest I don't understand your workflow.
For uploading to Vimeo you don't need SCCd files.
Upload your file, add the SRT and you're done - same for YouTube.
- Andreas
P.S. for Vimeo you can use WebVTT - it's an extened SRT. Working that way you must pay a little fee to verify the subtitle file.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes I have uploaded SRT files successfully to both YouTube & Vimeo.
The only reason I uploaded the SCC file was to see if something apart from Compressor could deal with it.
My problem remains the same.
If I understand this correctly.
Compressor make a mess of my none formatted SCC file.
Either my file is defect or I am missing something?
Sorry if this was not so clear.

You can use these SCC captions with all iApps and iDevices.
I personally don't like SCC. They are picky with the timing and frame rates also code tables for eastern languages are a bit wonky at least.
As long as you stay on computer based devices you should go with SRT.
Working on Mac and Apple devices tx3g is a very good and easy to handle alternative.

Thanks for all of those tips but I was hoping to at least test the option that is broadcast friendly.
Maybe I need to do some more testing :silly:

I don't want be the eternal whiner here.
A SCC doesn't mean automatically broadcast friendly. It is helpful in North America. For all other countries they have to retimed.
Next thing is: are muxed into file or not. In case they are you have to have Windows machine to work with them or use PPro.
 As I said often enough FCPX is compared to all other NLEs the worst when it comes to subtitles. But it has very good options to deal with them using the right 3rd party apps.
Alex4D some time last year asked why FCPX doesn't support broadcast quality subtitles. Only Apple knows the answer.
Maybe it's their MXF technology, no demand or whatever.

Regarding the "broadcast friendly" round trip from YouTube -> FCPX -> YouTube here again from my always never finished thing about FCPX and subtitles.

This way (using an unpublished movie or channel) the subtitles easily can be checked and changed by the invited people for broadcast readiness.
Same way translations can be done.

Thanks for your update on this.
And sorry about the slow reply.
I missed this post.
I am doing more tutorials:

finalbug.net/blog/entry/547-fcp-x-subtit...-missing-webinars-02
And plan and having the third part up some time next week.
I already covered XTE in part 2.
Hope I did your application justice?
I still want to cover your applications, XTI & XTR, in part 3.
And yes the idea of titles being transcribed and translated on line either by machines or people is central :woohoo:

I do not know if I am missing something but all I see is a video called Black1?
Is this the right link.
Is there some thing that I am meant to do with this link?
thanks

Ahhh now I understand.
Yes I see something very similar.
That is a cool tip. Thanks.
Are you aware of this?

I have not tried it but there seem to be two levels.
One for free and one which is paid!!!
