Hi team,

I need to create a 20mb mp4 for website streaming.

I'm building a new Film website in Squarespace and the landing page has video on it (like a showreel)

I sent the guy who is building the page for me the film but he said it needs to be a MP4 and round 20mb.

Can I do this using compressor ?

I've so far created a apple mpeg 4 movie in compressor, but it's 93.4 mb. So how do I compress it down to 20mb using compressor and keep the quality up ?

A idiots guide would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Neil

Don't know the specifics of the resolution and the content, but chances are high that if the compression looks good at 93MB it's not going to look so hot at 20MB.

But yes you can use Compressor to set a much lower data rate.

To maintain a reasonable "bits per pixel" as you lower the data rate you may need to go to a smaller frame size.

[bits/pixel] = (bitrate[in kb/s] * 1000) / (width * height * frames/s)

Keep in mind that duration times data rate equals file size.

Old article but worth reading.

Honestly, its probably not going to look so hot at all.

Maybe you have some obscure reason for having to do it this way...although I couldn't imagine why? I'd highly recommend not doing it that way.

Im guessing you're using a "Cover Page" or even if its just a regular page...For what you are doing, you'd be much better served by putting the full quality file on something like Vimeo or Youtube and just embedding the video in the page, as opposed to trying to have Squarespace host the actual video file with that 20MB limitation.

Hope that helps.
