Multicam clips won't insert or connect to project file

Hi all,

I'm running Final Cut X 10.2.2 on El Capitan, late 15 iMac 5k. This is a brand new computer and this is the first project I'm using it for.

I have a project that consists of two different multicam files (archival video of the same piece of theatre on different nights, different multicam clips for different nights). I am unable, as I have been in the past, to treat the multicam file like a normal clip, isolating in points and outpoints and then inserting or connecting it to my project timeline. When I try to insert or connect, I get a pinwheel of death and then after about 15 seconds final cut is unable to complete the action. There are already instances of both multicam files in the project.

Further, the multicam files in use will not insert into any other project files, either.

Any suggestions? Should I try to trash my preferences? Has this happened to anyone before? Or am I trying to use multicam files in a way they weren't intended to be used?
