Hey, I'm a self-taught Final Cut Pro X and Photoshop CS6 user. I have noticed, especially with Final Cut Pro X, that my computer runs SUPPPPERR slow when just adding media and editing it, let alone exporting etc.
I have a 1 TB External Hard drive and would like to transfer all of my media to it and use it solely from the Hard Drive.
I also am not fluent in the usage in the "Projects, Events, and Libraries" area of Final Cut so I'm thinking that maybe my mismanagement of that could also attribute to the speed of the software.
Would someone know if either of those things would help? If so, do you have any suggestions on how to do it in order to make for smoother importing, editing, and exporting.
I purchased this MacBook Pro in 2015, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i& processor with 16gb 1600 MHz DDR3 and Graphics Iris Pro 1536 MB. I only know what some of that means, but I feel like it is too new to be running this slowly.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,
Mike

First, how is that 1TB drive connected? It must be USB 3.0 (both drive and computer port) or Thunderbolt.
Second, moving your Libraries to the external drive will help system performance. If your Libraries are all self-contained then just copy them to the external drive. Simple as that.
What format is your media? ProRes, H.264, MXF?
How large are your project timelines, how large are your Libraries, how much special effects do you do to stuff in your timelines?
A laptop is only going to be so fast, not as fast as a desktop.
