ProRes 4444 Compatible With Vimeo?

So I've been cutting a trailer for a movie thats going out to various festivals and I was just going to upload the ProRes 4444 to Vimeo for a backup of the master and so the festival people can download the highest quality master of the film for their uses...

For some reason it goes all wonky when we try to upload it...ProRes 422 HQ works, H.264 direct upload works, H.264 works directly from FCPX share menu too...but for whatever reason ProRes 4444 as a direct upload has been making the upload not play back in HD...more like a very fuzzy SD. It makes the overall run time of the trailer change from around 2 minutes to like 32:08 minutes...(mostly black gaps, and some out of sync video bits and pieces sprinkled throughout...)

It's pretty bizarre...anyone had this issue before? It's not the end of the world, as I can just Dropbox/Google Drive whatever the actual full quality file to people but i'm just curious of anyone has insight on why this doesn't seem to work, of if I'm just doing something wrong?

Thanks.

4444 is way, way to high a data rate for the web. It has to be compressed to be practical for delivery. H.264 are a good data rate is fine.

Well...I think maybe I wasn't clear on the ultimate purpose of the ProRes 444 file being uploaded...there is no intention of the 4444 being play back on the web...its just there for someone to download the original file from Vimeo...it basically just saves a step in file transfer.

Like this (ORIGINAL):

Vimeo makes their own encoding(s) of whatever file you upload anyways, for web streaming playback...its just strange that the 4444 seems to almost work, but not quite and glitches out...but other ProRes flavors, etc all seem to function in this way just fine.

Vimeo only decompresses if you upload a file that's not practical for the web. It's not like YouTube. Most users prefer to make their own web compressed version for Vimeo delivery.

There is no reason a 4444 download should be different from another codec, assuming the system can play it back smoothly. Most downloads go onto the system drive, which will be hard pressed to smoothly play back 4444 video.

Google drive is the best option for this I've found.

I would use ProResHQ if it works. For a festival, there's pretty much no difference in the viewed quality of PR4444 versus PRHQ. The quirk with PR4444 is that some software is trying to interpret the fourth channel as an alpha, whether or not there actually is an embedded alpha signal. This might be the reason Vimeo is having trouble with it.
