Is El Capitan Safe Yet? was created by Videopixels
Hi all.
Just wondering is it safe to upgrade yet? I know clip stabilise was a problem last year around October/November and haven't been following any updates since.

I had been holding off as well but recently updated my main work station and have had no issues except for the well documented Time Code font issue.
Everything working fine with ElCap and I will be updating the rest of my units later this week.

If you are not using third party hardware and plugins which are not El Capitan compatible then No.

Here's my blog page on the issue with 3rd party updates.

But in a nutshell, as of 10.11.1, yes, very safe, very stable, improves performance.
The new 2nd gen Magic Trackpad has click & drag issues, though. But that's not just FCPX, it is buggy all over. Yet it seems more dysfunctional inside FCPX for some reason.

New iMac 27" Retina 5K, 32gb, 2TB Fusion with El Capitan. No problems at all. Almost no third party stuff. Fast as lightning............

Afternoon all. I've been editing a new web series and I also shoot and edit a TV show for our local region as well as documentary style segments for a private company. I took the jump and upgraded to El Capitan about a month ago.
I have a 2013 iMac
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I shoot all my video on Blackmagic Design Cinema Cameras and or a GH4.
When I began editing after the initial update I was getting a lot of clean close crashes, but after a couple days the plugins that I was using (iZotope, Neatvideo and ColorFinale) were updated and the crashes became less and less.
I still have the odd crash that seem to be related to the Nvidia web drive/cuda. I initially thought it was Neatvideo, but I switched the driver back to the default intel Mac driver from the Nvidia, and those crashes and since stopped.
I am now at 10.11.2 and haven't had a crash in about a week. I have not tried to apply the new beta for 10.11.3, but I think once we see the 10.11.3 final release it should be rock solid, and hopefully we will see an update to FCPX that truly is optimized for everything El Capitan brings to the table.

That issue seemed to only be for people with NVIDIA cards & it was fixed in 10.11.2Videopixels wrote: I know clip stabilise was a problem last year around October/November and haven't been following any updates since.
