How to use Panning Modes to create a better audio mix for voiceover / background music

Hi All,

I've recently been trying to improve the audio mix of my let's play videos (which feature dialogue over background music of video games), and was curious if anyone one here had any best practices for this sort of thing? I initially tried setting the pan mode of the background game music to "Ambience", which puts more of the signal to the rear audio channels, and setting the vocal audio to pan mode "Dialogue", to have it sit in the center front. I thought this would be the correct thing to do, but the resulting levels seemed pretty crazy. Any Final cut audio whizzes in the house?

Hi Keith,

Panning modes will not give you a better balance. Instead you can try some of these tips from Michael and Charlie to achieve a good mix between the different audio sources: www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/...-i-can-drag-and-drop
