How to Repair Permissions in El Capitan was created by JFilmmaker1
I can't open libraries on an external HD due to the permissions got messed up on the drive. It's read only. Unfournately when I try to change the "Read Only" to "Read & Write" there is not an option in the "Get Info" Tab. It just says "Read Only" with no drop down menu to change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

It's formatted NTFS. Which is how the drive came with software to communicate to the mac.

Can't use NTSF with FCPX, simple as that.

OS X can read NTFS but not write to it. If you want to use FCPX libraries on an NTFS volume, you'll need Paragon NTFS: www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
I have briefly tested this on FCPX, including updating an old library to 10.11.2. Libraries (inc'l write access) seem to work on NTFS volumes using Paragon. However FCPX uses specific HFS+ features so I'm not sure if all of these are or can be remapped to NTFS, even with the Paragon software.
I would be hesitant to commit important production work to this arrangement without more testing.

Even though I haven't had a problem using Paragon when writing to NTFS volumes, I would never use a FCPX library on an NTFS volume. FCPX constantly writes to the library, and you're just asking for trouble. Just reformat as HFS+ and be done with it.
