Finding some resolve! was created by gloryhornetboi
Just had a horrible time roundtripping to resolve and back. It may well be my fault so thought i'd ask here first, and i'm going to hold back on ranting incase it is! Anyway, as some of you will know the FS7 creates 8 channels of audio, no matter how many are used, that's what shows up in FCPX. Now this may be where I went wrong. I made my cut, exported the XML, graded, came back, and the audio channels were not just sat on top of the timeline (not a massive issue but kind of weird), there was also duplicates of all my audio. So stacked about 10 channels high was my audio over the magnetic timeline. Is it because I need to rid of the other 6 channels? Thanks for any help on the workflow!

The simple answer: only use Resolve for picture. That's traditionally how it's done, and it's no surprise that Resolve sucks at translating audio because they simply have not put enough work into it.
Usually what I do is remove all the audio in Resolve, do the grading, then round-trip back. If you're having someone else do final sound in Pro Tools, you bring that in separately. If you're doing the sound in FCPX, dupe your timeline (the one that has the sound), select it all, and make a compound clip. You can put that compound clip as sound underneath your graded, round-tripped timeline. The alternative is to make the graded timeline into a compound clip, and stick that on top of your timeline with sound.

Do you use Resolve 12 and FCPX 10.2. because with this new resolve and XML 1.5 the Roundtrip even with sound is really good. Variable speed multiple audio tracks are translated. They've done a lot of work around this and specially with sound.

Yep, both updated. Today was a nightmare. Even if I select not to include audio in the delivery page it still does. Which in itself is annoying. My resolve project once back in FCPX also had duplicated clips on top of each other in places. Seems to have a mind of its own mine. I'll persivere for so long, hopefully iron out these annoyances.

You've the audio back in FCPX because the audio follow the XML.
A thing you can do is to duplicate your Timeline in Resolve, Delete all audio tracks and export xml of this timeline. This xml in FCPX should have only video tracks.
When i have only to grade in resolve, i export a wav premix in resolve and the xml of my FCPX project without any audio (select all/ detach all ctrl+shift+s/ delete all audio and then export xml).
Another thing about audio of the FS7: when I've just 2 or 4 tracks used, before editing, i select all clips and deflect the audio i don't have to edit. You can do this opération in the project but it's longer because you've to select clips that have the same properties of number of audio channels.
