Update to Yosemite impossible?

Hi,

i have a question: is there anybody who knows a (safe) way to upgrade from 10.8.5 to Yosemite? My (german) app store does not offer Yosemite just El Capitan which I would like to avoid at the moment.

Now i have Yosemite from a colleauge with which i could make a bootable stick. But: is it guaranteed that this installer is the latest Yosemite?

I am not sure if I could upgrade to the newest YOsemite if it is not the newest version..

Any thoughts?

Doesn't matter if it's the latest Yosemite. Once you have it running as your system, the App Store will offer any available updates for it.

Thanks Tom. But that is exactly part of my question: since Apple published EL Capitan there is no Yosemite on the app store anymore. Who guarantees that they provide me with updates in Yosemite?

Apple. As long as they support the OS, updates will be available for it.

Hi Berg
Just to round out what Tom said; once you have installed whatever version of Yosemite you have access to, you will get "Update Available" message via the App Store. Once in App Store Updates, you will have the option of getting the latest version of Yosemite or the ability to upgrade to El Capitan. Just click on Yosemite update.
Apple removes the outdated downloads from the App Store when new versions are available. This is a good reason to make bootable USB sticks for each OS version when you can, just in case you want to install a version no longer available. Also if you download each version of the OS, even if you don't install it, that version should show up in the "Purchased" tab in the App Store. So you could download, not install and then have access to the last version of each OS available.
I never used Yosemite except on an external bootable drive and stayed with Mavericks while mid-project. Have now installed El Capitan. No negative issues that really matter.
Hope this helps, Greg
