MPEG-2? was created by DmitriZigany
Hey
Got some old files to edit. They are MPEG-2 and FCPX wouldn't import them (they play fine in Quick Look in the Finder).
MPEG StreamClip won't take them either, and gives a link to an Apple page where the add-on is supposed to be but can't find anything there.
I don't have QuickTime 7 (Pro or otherwise).
How can I get MPEG-2 files into FCPX

You have to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 component using Streamclip.

Isn't that XDCAM? MPEG-2 embedded in a wrapper. The user doesn't see the MPEG-2 codec at all.

Try this, works for me with MPEG-2 importing into FCPX
Change the extension from .MPG to .MOD
No idea why it works for me
With an MPG file on my desktop its greyed out when trying to import into FCPX
Bu when i replace it with .MOD it can now be imported
Give it a go and let me know if it worked for you
Good luck ,
All the best

try changing .mpg extension to .mod
Worked for me
.mpg shows as greyed out when trying to import with FCPX
But by simply changing the extension to .mod it can now import
See attached screen grab
Give it a go
Please let me know if it worked for you
