Timeline has gone white in the middle of editing

Hello. I was excited to be given FCPX for my birthday and started editing some holiday clips when the timeline turned white. Have I lost my work or is there a way to retrieve the project? I've tried quitting FCP and shutting down my Mac but that doesn't seem to work. Appreciate if anyone can give me some help. Thanks.

OK, not normal behavior, and the first I've heard of this. Sounds like a screen re-draw issue, which is minor, technically. But we need more info to help you.

What year/model Mac?
How much RAM, and what is the external drive config your Libraries and media are on?
What version of OS X?
What version of FCPX?
What camera did you shoot this footage on?

Things to try right away:
1 - Launch FCPX while holding down the Option and Command keys, all at the same time, delete preferences.
2 - Select the Library in the Libraries pane, File > Delete Generated Library Files, delete ALL render files.
3 - Quit FCPX, re-launch, see if it works any better.

Thank you BenB. I just booted up my Mac to try your suggestions and FCP has miraculously restored itself. I can see my story in the timeline again. Thanks ever so much though. You're a saint.
