Hi Everyone..

I am busy logging a large number of digitized mini-dv tapes, I have set the browser to hide rejected, each segment I keyword, all is great, I have created on my retina macbook pro desktop a folder called proxy tape 1-5. The question I have is this...

On my external drive I have created a library in the library is my media, and on the mac desktop is the proxy, I unplug the external hard drive, the library is no longer available to me, how do I ensure I can log/rate proxy media and have this become available when I plug the external hard drive back in?

When no obvious solution springs to mind, use the old and tested copy/paste, I copied the library from my external hard drive into the folder where the proxy is stored on my mac laptop, deleted and emptied the trash, the proxy worked, made a few keywords on the proxy media in the fcpx browser, then copied this new "updated" library back into the same folder on my external hard drive, the changes held...

Going external into Finder to copy/paste seems somewhat wrong, anyway it worked, not really the best idea, but a workaround..my first I guess!!!

Well, what you're doing is a bit advanced and I don't think can be done with a library using managed media (that is, managed to be included in the library). An option is to consolidate your original media outside your library by pointing it to your external drive. Then re-point the library to managed media pointing back to the library and then make your proxies. This will make your proxies in your library. If you then disconnect your external drive, your original media will go offline, but you should still have your proxies in the library. So basically, you DON'T put your library on your external drive because obviously you need access to it.

Also, theoretically, you don't have to have your proxies in the library either. That should depend on where you're pointing the library to store media when you make the proxies. It could be a folder on your laptop somewhere. I have not tested the above in a while, so I'm not completely sure it'll work like I said.
