Help! FCPX libraries show read only in EL Capitan after clean install

Dear Forum,
Okay, I took a calculated risk by clean installing El Capitan (latest version) on dual boot partition MBPr and upgrading FCPX from 10.1.4 to 10.2.2 from Maverick 10.9.5.
But now I can't access to my FCPX libraries reside on external HD and Raid box. It says 'read only' whenever try to open each library, although all the libraries events /media/projects were consolidated in their on folders on external location.
Any idea what might have gone wrong?
Your help much appreciated,
Soran

How are the drives formatted? Read/write permissions and content?

Hi Tom,
Maverick Partition 1 : FCPX in Maverick rock solid can access to the libraries stored on the external drive that's read and write enabled.
Partition 2 : FCPX in El Capitan cannot open the same libraries stored on the external drive that's read and write enabled.
Maverick Partition 1 : System can read & write under Sharing & Permission
El Capitan Partition 2 : System can read & write under Sharing & Permission

Opps! sorry,
Raid (pegasus R4) is fine Fcpx in El Capitan is now busy updating the projects & libraries
whereas there is no luck in external drive (my passport USB3) but that drive can read & write fine with maverick despite came NTS preformated.

It needs to be formatted in Mac OS format or ExFAT, if you need it to be cross-platform.

El Capitan under system report sees it as NTFS no write permission but I can edit fine with Maverick, just puzzled...
Shame I'll migrate all data if I format it ....
Thanks for the tip! I seem to have overlooked it at stage one before the upgrade

If you've had some form of virtualization software installed in the past it may have included drivers for writing to NFTS.
With a clean install of El Captain these wouldn't be included.
Hope this helps,
Mark

Soran I think there is another possibility as well.
WD's My Passport includes password protection as part of the firmware. I recommend WD Elements drives instead as they have no password protection. It may not be recognizing the new "User" UUID generated from your El Capitan install. System is not the same as User or Admin. El Capitan also has changed some underlying permissions/owner protections, so that may also affect the RW settings on the Passport. Bottom line here is that EC has to deal with password/ownership on a NTFS drive.
You can try to add user in the "Get Info" pane, or click the gear icon and set to "Ignore Ownership on this Device". Terminal may be the way to fix this.
As Tom says, Macs work so much better using GUID Mac Journaled as format that it is worth the extra hassle of erasing and reformatting IMHO.
The other way to reset ownership is if you copy and paste files to another drive, remove the original files, empty trash, then copy and paste back into drive. When you c&p it resets owner/permissions, but this may not resolve different UUIDs for password protection on WD MyPassport, so you may have RW issue on the Mavericks side.
Make sure to have back-ups prior to doing any of the above.
I'm just guessing to all of the above, but thought I'd throw it out there as another possibility. How you installed EC plays a large role in ownership/permissions/UUIDs/passwords,etc….
Finally, slightly off topic, when you partition a boot drive, make sure each side has plenty of empty space 15-25% minimum or you will see slowdowns. With newer small flash boot drives, this becomes a greater issue.
Hope this helps, Greg

Mark,
You're right! I seemed to have installed Paragon NTFS for Mac, on Maverick in the past. I've checked the system preference once you've drawn my attention to it. I think upgrading Paragon NTFS to El Capitan will resolve the issue.
Many thanks for that.
Greg,
Many thanks for your insightful explanation. I'll follow Tom's advice on 'using GUID Mac Journaled as format' next time it appears to be safer option. I know my system drive is small 256gb SSD and allocating 120gb for El Capitan not much. Considering this set up as transition, i.e until EC and FCPX will mature in the next updates, I've made a cautious move, testing EC & enjoying new plug ins that was not compatible with previous version of FCPX (10.1.4).
Many thanks for the support!
