I've contacted Canon - computer says no
I've contacted Apple - very friendly, but computer says no

Is there anyone out there who knows why the bleep FCPX can't edit XF-AVC high bit rate footage from the Canon c300 mark ii. I mean pretty much all the rental houses are using it, so people are bringing footage back to the edit, and then what?

No one at Canon or Apple seem to know what's going on let alone the name of this camera so I'm at a loss :(

XF-AVC is not actually a supported codec in FCPX, although the C300 Mark ii is a supported camera. How are you trying to import the footage (making camera archive, direct connection to camera, pointing to a copy of the card, etc.) and what happens when you do this? Does FCPX just not even recognize the card, archive or camera?

Hi.

Recently I imported and edited C300 footage and didn't have problems (FCP 10.2.2, OS 10.5.5). First import FCP took the footage after just clicking on all folders on the card. Second import didn't go so well, I had to go into each folder.

Was that the C300 or C300 mark II?

I'm using 10.2.2 and 10.11.1

Thanks for the reply.

Are you suggesting that if I create an archive, the footage from that archive will be readable by FCPX?

FCPX sees the card and the files within it, but because they are XF-AVC (I'm guessing that's the reason) it is all greyed out.

Canon Utility on the other hand can see all the footage just fine but whatever plugin the plugin is that allows the Utility programme to view the footage, it need to be in FCPX.

Isn't XF-AVC a pretty much brand new format introduced with the C300 mkII?
Usually take a while for software developers to implement support for new formats. My guess we'll se it in the next FCPX update or so.

In the xml files in the folders of each file there I can read:

<ModelName>EOS C300<

There is nothing mentioned about Mark 2.

Hey guys, the C300 and its codec has been supported for a long time in FCPX, but the C300 mark 2 can shoot in the new XF-AVC at 10 and 12 bit color, and this codec isn't yet supported in FCPX.

A good alternative is to use DaVinci Resolve to import and transcode to ProRes.
