Can I Force FCP to Recreate Waveforms?

Can I Force FCP to Recreate Waveforms? was created by CMessineo
I imported a bunch of shots and for some strange reason a few came in without the audio waveforms being created (even though the audio sounds great).
Is there a way to force FCP to recreate the waveform (it makes it so much easier to edit when I can see them).
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris,
If you see this problem in the clip browser (some imported clips show waveforms, others don't), this could mean that for some reason FCP X has not finished waveform creation for all your clips.
This can happen e.g. when the imported clips are very long and you have started working on them before waveforms have been calculated. In this case: shut down FCP X and open it again, then wait until you see all waveforms appear.
If this does not help: the next thing you should try is delete the FCP X preferences by launching FCP X while holding the ALT+CMD keys pressed down. Then open your problematic Library again and see if all waveforms appear.
If this does not help, you can force FCP X to recreate the entire waveform cache:
- Close FCP X
- R-click the Library in Finder and choose "Reveal Package Contents".
- Open the Event folder > open the Render Files folder > open the Peaks Data folder and put the content of the Peaks Data folder to the Trash. Then empty the Trash.
Now launch FCP X again, open the problematic Library and don't do anything until you see the waveforms appear on your clips int he clip browser.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed answer.
The third step solved it for me.
I really appreciate it.
