XML from Ninja Blade- to Synchronized clip?

Hi all.

Perhaps the easiest way to ask this is to explain what I am doing.

I've recorded some test footage on a Ninja Blade External recorder. This recorder allows you to go through and favorite and reject sections of a clip. Then export that video file along with an XML file to FCP. That works great, in FCP I see my favorite/rejected markers and in the browser, isolate just favorites and just rejects.

Here is where I am confused. Along with the video, I recorded a seperate audio (dual system) track using a Sound Devices mixer/recorder that I want synced to the video. I won't be using audio recorded with video.

When I am in FCP, I can sync the external audio to my video just fine, but then I lose all my favorited and rejected markers on the synchronized clip. Is there any way to have those appear AFTER a synchronization? Maybe this can't be done.
Thanks.

Jonathan

Favorites and Rejects are associated with a clip. When you create a synchronized clip or a multicam clip you create a new clip that has no Favorites or Rejects associated with it.

That's why the correct procedure when working with dual system audio is to first synch the external audio with the video creating a synched or multicam clip, then mark the ranges on that clip.

The only way you could synch the dual system audio with the video while preserving the marker ranges you have applied in the Ninja, is to open the video clip in its timeline, synch the dual system audio to the clip audio and then remove the original audio because you won't be using it anyway.

Of course you won't be able to synch automatically. But if your dual system footage has been recorded using a clapper or any other video/audio reference at that start (which you always must doe when using dual system sound), it will be very easy to synch the external audio with the video clip.

But I still think it's much easier to create your synched clip in FCP X first and then start working with it, applying ranges and keywords to the synched clip.

Thank you so much Ronny!

I kind of figured the best way would be to mark the clip within FCP after sync.

I found it intriguing that I could do a basic rough edit on the Ninja while traveling saving some time. I ussualy jst do a slate tone at the begining of each shot, and as I've happily reported that syncing the external aidio to the scratch in FCP "sync to audio" works perfectly! The slate tone is there just in case in need to manually line up the scratch to the external, but have so far never had to do that.

I thought maybe there would be some easy way to apply the xml from the ninja to a new syned clip

Your info always appreciated.
