Hi,
I'm doing a project for work, with two video tracks.
In the bottom track I have a man talking and in the top track I have some footage which I've scaled to fit in the top right corner.
In the top I have two pieces of footage that I want to transition with a cross dissolve, but when I add the transition, it shows up in the bottom track also, i.e. the track with the man talking.
Is it possible to only have the transition show up in the top track?
I'm new to FCP X. I have 10.2.2
Thanks for any help
Best
Colin

Post screenshots of your timeline and what you're doing. I cannot reproduce the problem using the standard cross dissolve.

Hi Tom,
I played around with a test project in the scenario that would work. It wouldn't let me add a transition between the two clips in the top track, only on one or other which it then added at both ends of the track select, i.e. it showed a no entry sign rather than a plus sign.
I'd seem somewhere else that one could create a compound track, so I dragged the two clips from the top layer into the bottom track, onto the end, added a transition, created a compound clip and dragged it up to the top track. This works.
I guess coming in from Sony Vegas Pro there are a good few differences for me to comprehend.
Thanks for your input
Cheers Colin

As I understand, the 2nd track is connected to the primary storyline, when you add a dissolve to the 2nd attached/connected clips, a storyline is created, with the dissolve between the 2 clips and the end of the 2nd new storyline which is above the primary storyline, delete the 2nd effect..this should work, I tried and it does on my end, even transformed the 2 upper clips into a pic in pic, everything seems ok in 10.2.2
