How do you reduce flicker on a clip?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to reduce flickering on a shot? I have looked it up online and it says to copy and paste the clip, put it on top of the other one, move it on a frame and reduce the transparency to 50% I tried that but it doesn't seem to work, it makes the shot look a little blurry. Any other suggestions?

Thank you very much.

CJ :)

What type of flicker? Like flicker from florescent lights?

There is a plugin from Digital Anarchy called Flicker Free: www.digitalanarchy.com/Flicker/main.html

It works quite well but is extremely CPU intensive and takes a long time to run. However it can reduce or even eliminate several types of flicker, including banding from fluorescent lights.

The best approach is avoid flicker during shooting. E.g, use 1/60 shutter for 30 fps material, avoid shooting when ceiling fans are rotating, disable auto ISO or other camera features which may cause rapid exposure fluctuation, etc.

The plugin that Joema mentionned from Digital Anarchy is the only thing that works for me, I saved several shots with it. I do not know any other method.

I think LRTimeLapse has some flicker reduction tools but I have never tried it:

You can also try this free trick:

Copy the clip with the flicker, and put the copy over the original but one frame early or late. Reduce the opacity of the copy to 50%. Sometimes it yields passable results.
