Newbie question on file management in FCP. My movie files were originally uploaded to the Photos application in Yosemite then added to iMovie. As I understand it with iMovie the file iremains stored in the Photos library and not duplicated. When I move to FCP and if I Import the same movies into FCP from Photos or iMovie does the same apply. In other words will the files be duplicated or remain in the photos library.

FCPX is going to move it all into the Library, I believe.

Thanks for the reply. I want to avoid duplicating the source video files on my hard drive. As I mentioned, the video was originally imported into the Photos app, then brought into iMovie (2014). Before I set up the library in FCPx looking for some advice on how to do that without duplicating.

If anyone has suggestions that would be great.

Any projects I have transferred from iMovie have copied the media to a new event/library.

Media imported directly will be dependent on your import settings.

Media accessed through the photo browser will remain there until added to a project or event, then it should follow your default import preferences.

hope this helps,
Mark
