First Time Exporting Uncompressed, Help! was created by ProDucks Media
I recently directed my first film, I have a picture lock and now am wanting to send the project to a VFX Artist, and sound Designer. The VFX artist wants the file uncompressed. Do I have to have the compressor to do this? Also, The Sound Designer is wanting a picture file in DNxHD Codec, that has a countdown leader with a twopop at the beginning and an embedded omf with full length handles... How can I do that? So, again this is my first time going through the process so apologies a head of time for any frustration caused by ignorance on my behalf. Just thought I would throw this up here and see if I couldn't get any help from y'all. Thanks ahead of time for any info.

Hi Tyler,
The VFX artist wants the file uncompressed. Do I have to have the compressor to do this?
Nope, you can export to Uncompressed right within FCP X. Press the Share button and choose "Master File". Then click the Settings button and change Video Codec to "Uncompressed". Then press Next to save your project as Uncompressed:
NOTE: I would be surprised if the VFX guy wanted your entire project as an Uncompressed file. Usually they only need the shots that will require VFX, with two seconds handles. But if he wants the entire project, that's perfect.
The Sound Designer is wanting a picture file in DNxHD Codec, that has a countdown leader with a twopop at the beginning and an embedded omf with full length handles...
Seriously, no-one sends embedded OMF in a DNxHD video file anymore. Tell him he can get an AAF with full length handles plus a separate Prores, H.264 or MP4 video file. That's how people deliver to sound today. If he agrees, go click the last link in this reply to get a detailed explanation on how you can deliver your project for sound. If he does not agree, fire him and get someone who lives in the 20th century
BTW: a countdown leader with a 2-pop is what it says: it's a countdown clock that you add before the start of your movie, with a 1KHz tone that is one frame long and that is placed 2 seconds before the start of the movie. It is used to check if video and audio are perfectly in sync when you send your project to a sound designer. You can download a ready-made countdown leader here:
www.fcp.co/forum/9-free-fcpx-plugins-and...own-leader-generator
And if you want to go all crazy, you can create the leader yourself in FCP X. This is included in these guidelines on how to export an FCP X project for sound:

Is there any way around exporting AAF without having to purchase the plugin to do so?

You need X2Pro to export an AAF. The price for the app is very low compared to what you pay for VFX and external audio sweetening, so it's well worth it.
