SoftRaid 5.1 is out was created by Makki
fully compatible with El Capitan www.softraid.com at the price of 180 dollars exl. VAT. That is to expensive for me so I just bought a cheap little LaCie USB drive with Yosemite installed, and from there I can build RAID as before. I do not need all those bells and whistles in SoftRaid.

SoftRAID Lite will be out in a few more days and should cost about $49. It will handle stripe and mirror volumes (RAID 0/1).

Apple is still selling Thunderbolt RAID systems that require the Yosemite AppleRAID to work, and advertising them as "plug-and-play setup on Mac OS X". www.apple.com/shop/product/H8250VC/A/g-t...underbolt-hard-drive

Unfortunately this is no longer true in the sense of using the GUI Disk Utility to set these up. For customers with similar disk systems or contemplating purchasing those, the best solution is probably to wait and get SoftRAID Lite.

However it is possible to run verify or delete/create new RAID 0/1 volumes using Terminal. I hesitate to mention the commands for fear someone could make a slight mistake in the arcane syntax and wipe out a volume. I thought that was one of the benefits of using a GUI?

Joema That are good news about Lite version, but are you saying that I can not start up from Yosemite disk and build a new RAID with the "old" diskutily from there and the RAID it will not work when I am back in El Capitan ?

I think that might work but I have not tested it. Some people have even figured out how to binary patch the version check in the old DU so it will work on El Capitan. I would be hesitant to do that on a production machine.

The Terminal commands for deleting/creating a new RAID 0/1 volume are not complicated but Apple doesn't have a KB article with those -- they are probably afraid someone would delete the wrong volume accidentally.

It's a more immediate potential problem than some future RAID array you might purchase. Any system in production using AppleRAID which crashes or has an abrupt shutdown on El Capitan needs to run disk verify. Starting with El Capitan you can't do that on AppleRAID 0/1 volumes using the GUI, which for many users means they can't do it at all.

I think that SoftRaid is a good investment after all, I am on the verge to buy the full version.
