Can you tell us more details about what operation in FCP X is slow on the Mac Pro? Is it moving through the timeline? Applying effects, and if so which ones? Is it exporting to an output file, and if so what codec?

Also is the material you are editing in a camera native format, or proxy or optimized media? If camera native format, what resolution, codec and camera type?

Outside of FCP X you can also test the disk performance using BlackMagic or other utilities: itunes.apple.com/us/app/blackmagic-disk-...st/id425264550?mt=12 That will help determine whether the Thunderbolt disk drive is involved in the slow FCP X performance.

Also a simple thing to overlook is that Spotlight will need to index all of the external drive on the different system (MP) so you need to give it some time.
Not sure this is it, but easy to miss.

Hope this helps, Greg
