Better control of keyframe text in FCPX?

Hi there
I'm working on some keyframe text that moves along with an object in the video, but I'm having problem lining it up/moving it precisely with the mouse.
How can I tell each frame the X & Y position I want the text to be in please by keying it in on the keyboard?

Thanks

Use the Inspector, you can type in numbers by double-clicking the appropriate parameter. Much more precise than a mouse.

Better yet, TrackX from Coremelt can make this mega-simple and quick.

Cheers for that.
I had a look at TrackX earlier in the week and it looked like just as much effort as doing it manually.

TrackX is WAY faster. Draw your tracking target, hit the "Track" button so it can build the path, then attach your text. Infinity faster than keyframing.

I might give it another go next time

Good old Larry Jordan actually explains it better than the developers

Its a shame he doesnt do one with Track Text though

Hi Coffee
One thing I found out is that when using keyframes in FCPX especially for tracking, is to go to the beginning of the clip, apply a keyframe then go to the end of the clip and move the object to the final position and apply the second keyframe there. Let FCPX then apply the tracking first for the whole clip. I then go back and apply any intermediate keyframes by moving the text position to correct out of position timing. FCPX will be smoother in tracking this way than if you try to add keyframes beginning to end. YMMV
If the object needs to reverse course during the clip then I would apply the second keyframe at the reverse point and then go to end for the next keyframe.
How well this all works depends on the clip and text. If the object you are tracking to is moving at constant speed the track will be smooth, but lots of speed/position changes can look off.
It is at least worth a try.
Then there is also Motion for tracking.
Of course 3rd party plug-ins like TrackX can also provide solutions it just costs $$
As Ben said you can also use the inspector pane x/y coordinates. Using these or at least referencing them keeps you from moving text up/down when you only mean to go sideways and vice versa.
Hope this helps, Greg
