Remove effects from all clips?

I have added a magical bullet-effect to all my clips, and now I want to make small adjustments to every clip, inside MB-effect. If I do this to one clip and then copy and paste to every clip fcpx adds another MB-effect to the clips and by that doubles to effect. I don´t want that. So I decide to delete the effect from all clips. I select all clips and in the inspector I delete the effect with backspace. But the action only happens to one clip.

Why is it not possible to delete the effect from every clip at once?

I feel your pain. Not being able to remove specific effects from multiple clips at once is a limitation of FCP X that seems quite difficult to solve. They have added Paste Attributes, let's hope they will add Remove Attributes in the next major update. It's a functionality that would be welcomed by 100% of the FCP X users, so it should be very high on the priority list.

Hi Neguah
Ronny forgot to mention to be sure to make a request to Apple via the Feedback link in FCPX for this feature. The more times that Apple sees a request, then they may be inclined to add the feature.

I don't use magic bullet, so not sure this will work, hope Ronny will comment.
If you want the same effect applied to all clips, I think you should be able to add an adjustment layer and add your "Magic Bullet" effect there. Then you could tweak it and have the change applied to all clips covered by the adjustment layer.

Hope this helps, Greg

Great advice from Greg, as always.

As to the question: can you use an Adjustment Layer with MBL? The answer is yes, and no.

Yes you can apply an MBL look to a clip, copy the clip and use Paste Attributes to paste the MBL look onto an adjustment layer. Every clip under the adjustment layer will get the same look that you copied from the original clip.

But no, you cannot add the MBL effect to an adjustment layer and modify the look. When you click the MBL editor, MBL needs to take a frame from the clip it is applied to, in order to give you feedback on your corrections inside its editing window. As an adjustment layer is "black" by default, the video in the MBL editor window will be black.

You could try using X-FXHandler > www.spherico.com/filmtools/X-Files/X-FXHandler/

Thank you all for helping. I just had to remove the effect from every single clip.

I will for sure give Apple feedback, because this feature is really missing. Can't believe why they haven't been able to do something with it.

As for the X-FXHandler, I will try it. Thank you!

Amen! Biggest wish list and pain of leaving FCP 7 so far. I really needed it last FCPX project.

I did some more testing on this. It appears you can remove the top effect in the stack from multiple clips -- provided the effect stacks are identical. It doesn't work for effects lower in the stack, and unfortunately you cannot re-order the stack for multiple clips.

I know this may not be much practical benefit, just reporting what I observed.

It would be nice if you could search for applied effects using the timeline index.
