Bring back deleted portion of a clip

So hitting undo is not an option here because these edits were made a while ago. So, is there a way to select the cut between two contiguous clips and bring back the portion that was deleted in an earlier edit?

I hope I explained this clearly.
Thanks for any help I can get...

Hi Schwyhart
When you edit in FCPX, you don't actually delete clips, just change the edit data.
"No footage was harmed in making this edit"
Making some assumptions here…
You could go back in time and open earlier auto saved version, however believe you have made edits you want to save since that time. Going forward you can create "Versions" that get saved before major edit changes, or auditions.
Assuming you just want to change some edit points in Timeline between 2 clips??
You will have to manually re-establish the edits.
Open the Precision Editor by double clicking on the edit point between the clips in Timeline.
This will open Precision Editor with the 2 clips on separate overlapping clips. You can preform either Ripple edits by dragging on the end of either clip, or do a Roll edit by dragging in middle space of the 2 clips.
Is this what you needed??

Hope this helps, Greg

Well if you do that, then you have to line the clips perfectly or there will be a jump.
It'd be nice if you could just select between the two clips and "restore" and join the clips back together.

So I guess manually is the only way for now.

This is now my request for the next version of FCPX.

Thanks for your help.

Are the 2 clips on the Timeline in fact the same clip (footage) that you just want to go back prior to "Blading" (Cut) so it is one continuous clip?
Just drag out the clip till you hit the end point then delete the excess clip, or use the replace cmmd from the browser, or create a new connected clip and realign till you are happy.
Again when you "cut" a clip, you are only creating a data point for FCPX to read, all footage is still there, so just change the data info by changing /rearranging the timeline.

Hope this helps, Greg

You are correct. Basically I just edited out a portion of an interview, which was shot in the studio. Because it was shot in the studio, the 3 camera shoot is now one video. All I needed to do was edit out a section of the interview that had information that wasn't released yet. Now the director needs it back in.
Anyway, I know how to manually do it, but it would be super nice if I could select in-between the two 'continuous' clips and do a command that brings back the cut out footage and also joins the clip together.

I could replace the footage with the original footage in the FCPX browser, but then I'd also have to re-edit other parts, so no that's not an option. I also understand how FCPX works with video and that I'm not actually deleting footage...but you can completely delete something in the FCPX browser.

I guess I'll do this manually. :(

Thank's Greg for the suggestions...just wished there was a way to do it in a couple clicks instead of 1,000 lol

One way of doing it would be, turn on snapping to right click the 2nd half of the clip, select reveal in browser, then add a marker to the out point (M), drag the first half in the timeline out until you hit the marker and then delete the second half. This might make the process faster and more accurate. Also, if the ends of the clips line up (they don't in you case) you can simply select the clips and click 'Trim>Join Clips'

Hope this helps

Select your first clip of the two in the Timeline, Shift-F to reveal in Browser. The current range will be selected for you. Pull the end of that range out as far as you need it. Do a replace edit. Delete the second clip in the Timeline.
