Will FCP X edit old 24pa footage from DVX100B was created by Mad Doug K
Hello,
First post here and my question is this, I have a bunch of old tapes that were shot using the 24pa setting on the DVX100B and I want to know if the latest version of FCP will remove the advanced pull down of that footage so I can edit in 24p? I know that FCP X was basically designed to work with DSLRs so I don't have much hope that it will.
Cheers,
Mad Doug.

That's basically Panasonic's DVCPRO format, so it should. You could always just hook it up and test it. If you don't already own it, there's a free trial version you can download.

Regular pulldown, yes, you should be able to capture and cut it into a 24p timeline (and you don't have to find the A frame like in FCP7 I believe). But advanced pulldown, I don't know. You would have to test it. I do know that Cinema Tools from Final Cut Studio was capable of removing advanced pulldown with its reverse telecine process, so if all else fails you can get it and batch process your footage before you bring it into FCPX.

Previous versions of FCPX always handled P and PA, as well as PN from the Panny 200A so I would suspect the 100B would also be compatible for those record formats. I have not tested this on the 10.2 version of FCPX but I doubt they changed that.

Remove pull down is an analysis option when capturing from tape. So hook it up via FireWire and you'll see the options in import.

I don't think the OP has the program, but is considering purchasing it if he feels confident it will handle his tapes, which I'm pretty sure it will as it has always handled the tapes on the 200.

Wow! thanks for the quick responses guys. Yeah I bought FCPX pretty much when it came out. I have been shooting mostly DSLR stuff but I use to shoot on the DVX100 and HVX but back then I was using FCP 6 I think or did they call Studio at that time. Anyway, the reason I asked is because I dug out an old tape that I know was shot on my HVX, so SD, but when I took it into FCP it has a lot of aliasing. Wait, I just remembered I used my old G4 running the old FCP to create the file! I bet I did not use the advanced pull down removal. Guess I'll go back and check that again. Thanks for the responses guys.
Cheers,
Doug K.
One last question, from what i have read on this forum FCP X now has no problem working with the MXF files from the HVX200 correct? I hope so as I am purchasing an old HVX200 for the hell of it. I seem to recall it did not work when it first came out and then afterwards it did but was glitchy.
Thanks again.
