Problems from FCP XML to Logic Pro X was created by beh1994
Hey guys,
Recently I just Exported FCP XML from FCP 10.2.1 into Logic Pro 10.1.1( all the audio already detached and assign to roles) to export AAF.
But seems like logic pro X can't read it properly except for my SFX and Music) Even the video too.
The video keep starting from the beginning of the clips, and the audio too.(you can hear the clapper board guy shouting SCENE 1 SHOT 1 TAKE 1!) I got no idea why at all, and it's suppose to read it as it is in FCPX.
Anyone encountered this and solved this problem before? I wish anyone can help because this is quite urgent.
( I had a compound clip which i cant attached because I applied retime fast motion on the compound clip)
THANKS!!

Hi Beh, welcome to the forum.
Hard to say what is going on without seeing any screenshots of how your FCP X timeline translates into LPX.
FCPX XML works with LPX on simple projects, but users have been reporting inconsistent behavior when dealing with more complex timelines. One things is clear: retimed compound clips will NOT make it into Logic Pro via FCP XML.
If this is urgent, you might be better off exporting your video as an H.264 file, and all your audio Roles as individual audio tracks. Then import all the files into Logic, do your mix export the mixed audio back into FCP X. That always works.

Thanks Ronny,
That's what I do just now after a few trial and error. I get frustrated to it, so i just assign everything to roles and subroles, then export as an Multitrack QT in order for me to move on to other stuff.
Just wanna share something, I actually try it with Resolve 12 as well. It reads all my audio, except retime compound clips. So i export AAF and import it into Logic, all my Compound clips, and even Synchronised Clips are all gone. So that's why I get so frustrated and use Roles at the end of the day.
I wonder how can we notify/report/COMPLAIN to Apple about this. I believe everyone wants to do so. Even their own sister software(which is FCPX and Logic Pro X) have problems reading files from there. So how do we expect roundtrip to other softwares to work on audio? Will try to avoid retime clips in the future for any upcoming big projects.

I really understand your frustration.
At this time, the FCP X/LPX roundtrip indeed does not work as it should. I have had excellent results on some projects, others have reported less than stellar results. If you ask me when it ever will work, I don't have the answer.
To have an idea how high this could be on the priority list, you could make this reflection: at this time people already have a good working option going via X2Pro to ProTools for audio finishing that they feel cannot be done within FCP X. If you have tried working with audio in Resolve 12, you will now that this still is a very, very weak part of the application. Although Logic Pro X could very easily be used as a powerful audio sweetening application, its primary market is music creation. I think Apple considers that, when a viable solution via third-party products already exists, there is no real hurry to do it themselves. This does not mean that there couldn't be any changes in the (near) future. So let's wait and see what the rest of this year will bring.

In the meantime, take a look at this video:
It's a bit long but it gives you a good idea on how you should send an FCP X project via FCP XML to Logic Pro X.
2 things that are crucial for the translation:
1. Assign correct Roles to every clip, including embedded audio.
2. Export the XML in the Audio view. Any other view will result in incorrect translation.
As to the video: export a video from your timeline, then import that video into LPX.
And for more details, you also might check this thread: www.fcp.co/fcp-forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-f...-fcpx-to-logic-x-xml
