Hi there,

Next week we will start recording the first of 8 shows. In the show, called 24 hours with...,a guest is together with the host in a small room for 24 hours. They eat, sleep and talk together the whole time and are not allowed to leave the studio. There is a small bathroom /toilet where they will not be filmed.

We take live notes the whole 24 hours, except for when they are sleeping. Everything will be recorded. I looked at lumberjack and shot notes, but as I understand it, that will not work. The notes we take are almost literally the whole conversations.

Does anybody know how to integrate those notes with FCP X?

Lumberjack is ideal for marking ranges within long takes. Shot Notes X is better suited for scripted, or at least slated work.

It sounds like what you are trying to do is more of a "live transcription". You could pull that off fairly easily with a combination of Movie Slate for iPad and Lumberjack/Lumberyard in Transcription Mode.

Set Movie Slate to run TOD timecode and of course get your cameras to match. Then use movie slate to do one shot for a time period, say once an hour. Then for those shots use the "Notes" feature in Movie Slate to add notes a specific time codes. Evertime you create a new note it will be timestamped. When you are done, you'll export a CSV file and the create a transcript from it using a spreadsheet app (easy to do.). Once your transcript is formatted to how Lumbyard likes it you'll use Transription mode to add those ranges with notes to your dailies. Give it a test I think you'll enjoy the workflow.

If I was you I would consider doing both Lumberyard Logging as well as Movie Slate for the live transcription. If this is a paying gig contact me and I can help consult on this workflow.
