Roundtrip with Resolve 11 / Compressing Footage Twice

Backstory:

The project that I'm working on was cut in FCPX using RED R3D files in a ProRes 4444 render-quality timeline. I exported a FCPXML in order to color correct the R3D files in Resolve 11. Once I finish color correction, I plan on roundtripping the FCPXML back to FCPX to finish the project using ProRes 4444 individual clips. (Resolve made a mess of my titles and keyed video, so the project will need to end up in FCPX one way or another).

Question:

If I choose ProRes 4444 as my video output option in Resolve and import those clips into FCPX, will FCPX recompress them to do the final export in ProRes 4444? Or will it essentially leave the ProRes 4444 files untouched since they match my project render quality?

Bottom line, I'm trying to minimize the quality loss going from R3D to a final delivery of ProRes 4444 using FCPX and Resolve. If there's another method that works better, I would certainly appreciate hearing it! Thanks!

FCPX actually never recompresses unless you ask him to do so in transcode. So your files won't be recompressed.

And even if it were, there is virtually no loss recompressing from 4444 to 4444, it would take a really big amount of recompressions before you notice anything.

Last but not least, for a final export, a 4444 is overkill. Since you won't manipulate the image anymore, you don't need all that depth. So your workflow works, but you could save some space and export a 422HQ, it will be more than enough.
