Best way to convert from 23,98 to 24p for a DCP was created by Emmanuel
Hi there
I need to convert a project from 23,98p to 24p, for a DCP.
What is the best way to do this ? Simply in the export settings of FCPX ?
If I need to export sound separetely, will this sound be converted too ?
I can't get wrong on that one, it costs money
Thanks !!!!

Hmm I'm doubting now.
Compressor has an option "duration set to 100% of source", which I guess makes it re-compressing.
If I choose "play at 24fps", I suppose it is closer to conforming.
What should I do, for the DCP ?

To my mind, if I can avoid a recompression I always try to do it. My idea is - set up 24 for your 23.98 originals. I do not know how to change media interpretation in FCPX, but if you do it in other editor I'm sure there is not much harm from this. 0.02 fps is too few to recognize the difference

I hope I'm not too late for this topic.
Create a Project in FCPX that is exactly 24fps. Drop your 23.98 footage into it. Don't let the project conform to that frame rate. Now under the place where you have your retiming options and whatnot, choose "Automatic Speed. I'm not in front of FCPX at the moment but it's one of those buttons above the timeline on the right that has a drop-down menu when you click it. Export and there you go. Completely non-destructive!
And of course you use DCP-O-Matic to make your DCP.

Choosing "Automatic Speed" will cause the clip to play at its recorded frame rate (in this case 23.98). By simply creating a 24p project, when the 23.98 clip is dropped into it, it will play at 24fps. No other adjustments there needed. But there is another thread on this forum with more specific details to the OP's question.
